When framing a bedroom, it is important to understand that you are not just building four walls, you are creating someone's personal space, a place where they will spend up to a third of their life in.

• You have to take into account the fact that when finished, the bedroom will have windows, closets, and will need to support the weight of a bed and (sometimes heavy) furniture.

• It doesn’t pay to place windows on three walls when one of them will have the bed placed there. We might need to raise the sill height, or to shrink the windows down a little to form wall space.

• We need to consider how to get furnishings into the room once completed. We also have to consider the placement of walk-in closets and master baths in relation to the bedroom.
