Light Framing and Carpentry
Light Framing and Carpentry: General Contractor, Framing, Decks, Carpentry
The Home Group's expertise with structural woodworking gives us
the ability to efficiently perform a wide range of light framing and
carpentry jobs.
Light Framing: Small Projects that can have a Big Impact
Light framing refers to small jobs, some which may take just an hour or two
to complete, others with up to
three days of work involved. A project that a single workman can
perform can also be considered as a light framing job.
Examples of light framing work we can perform include:
Add a set of stairs to an exterior deck
Repair a hand rail
Replace rotten gutter boards
Ceiling treatments, such as:
A tray (raised) ceiling with a 12-18” dropped section around
the edge, which may include accent or recessed lighting
Cathedral ceiling, pitched with a flat section at the top
Barrel ceiling – a rounded effect in lieu of a flat ceiling
Decks framed and built - many small or simply designed decks can be considered light framing.
Most can be completed in a few days.
Gazebos built
Pergolas built – a wooden outdoor structure on three or four posts,
with decorative architectural lattice-work between the posts. A
pergola can be
used for flower or plant bed, or to place a swing underneath, etc.
Light Carpentry: Those Pesky Little Projects You Never Have
Time to Get To
As homes get older, minor damage occurs that can cause larger
problems if not addressed in a timely manner. Wood
splinters, nails and screws can loosen, trim falls off; all small
repairs a handy "do-it-yourself" homeowner might want to attempt, if
only he had the time and proper equipment to do it.
If you don't have the time, equipment or experience to handle
these small repair jobs the Home Group can help! Our skilled
woodworkers can
perform a wide variety of light carpentry jobs to help keep your
home in tiptop shape. We get
the job done quickly, cleanly and efficiently.
Light carpentry and repair work we can perform include:
Repair / replace damaged, discolored or splintered
deck boards
Repair an uneven or squeaky hardwood floor
Repair crown molding or chair rail molding
Repair loose wall panels
Build wheelchair ramps according to guidelines
specified by the
Americans with
Disabilities Act or local building codes.
Staircase renovation - On one recent project, the
client had an open staircase with very widely spaced
balusters leading from the first floor to the basement. As
the homeowners were expecting a child, this was a safety
issue and an area of concern. We installed in a new hand
rail with balusters closely spaced so a baby’s head
could not fit between them.
Garage doors adjusted to prevent water from being
absorbed into the wood and damaging the paint finish
Reinstall, repair or replace missing hand rails
Rescreen porches – often entails removing and replacing
damaged exterior ”one-bys” which hide the fasteners that
hold the screening on.
We also make custom Plexiglas inserts to cover the screen openings, an economical solution to keep the elements out
of a screened porch in wintertime. These inserts enable you to keep furniture out all year long and keep snow
from getting in.
Screen doors repaired or replaced; new door closure / lock
set installed
Weather-damaged door threshold replaced – rotted cleaned out and
repaired to ensure that it doesn’t happen again
Gutters repaired or replaced - many Indiana homes have
the problem of rain gutters that fill up with leaves and
clog drains and downspouts.
This causes gutters to fill up with
water (back flow)
Water begins to leak out from behind the clog instead of
going down the downspout. This can cause deterioration to
the fascia and soffit that need to be repaired. Sometimes
the problem can be so drastic that the water will run down
the face of the brick, or behind the brick, which can start
rotting out the inside of the wall.
Fences installed or repaired:
Attics
Add a new, attic access-way, or move an existing one, to make it easier to
get to
Add a set of pull-down stairs for easier access
Add ventilation to improve air circulation and temperature
control of the building’s interior
Repair improper or insufficient bracing to make sure
everything stays tight and to prevent wood structure from sagging
over time
